Our story · Since 2006

A labour of love

Commercial-free smooth jazz from a small home studio in Saint Lucia. How it started, why it’s still going, and how to get in touch.

RelaxingJazz.com first went on air back in 2006, broadcast live from a small home studio in Saint Lucia by a UK expat with a deep love for smooth jazz. Twenty years later, not much has changed: it’s still the same one-person passion project it always was.

This station has never been about profit. There are no ads and no sponsors, and we’ll never ask you for money. Every penny of the running costs (web servers, streaming servers, music, licensing, and everything else that keeps a 24/7 station on the air) comes out of pocket. It always has.

What keeps it going are the emails. Over the years, listeners from all over the world have written to say they’ve been tuning in for years, and that the station keeps them company through long workdays, quiet evenings and sleepless nights.

Knowing that someone on the other side of the world is listening to the same music, at the same moment, is a genuinely wonderful feeling.

Smooth jazz is a genre that deserves to be heard, and sharing it with you is the whole point. We hope you enjoy it, and we always love to hear from you.

Twenty years on air

This year RelaxingJazz.com turns twenty. Twenty years of the same simple idea: beautiful instrumental smooth jazz, chosen by a person rather than an algorithm, with no adverts and no sponsors. Still one person, still one handpicked playlist, still on air all day and all night.

If the music has kept you company at some point along the way, we’d love to hear about it.

B1 · Questions

Frequently asked

Something else on your mind? Send us an email.

Is RelaxingJazz.com really free and commercial-free?

Yes. We’ve streamed smooth jazz 24/7 since 2006 with no adverts and no sponsors, and we never ask for money. It’s a not-for-profit passion project, funded out of pocket. If you’d like to chip in anyway, there’s a donate page.

What music do you play?

Instrumental smooth jazz from a handcrafted rotation of over 5,000 tracks: Brian Culbertson, Boney James, Dave Koz, Chris Botti, Rick Braun, Peter White, Jeff Lorber, Euge Groove, Fourplay and many more. No algorithms, and no repeats for hours.

How can I listen?

Right here: press play and the music keeps going while you browse. You’ll also find us on TuneIn, Apple Music and myTuner, on Alexa (“Alexa, ask Get Me Radio! to play RelaxingJazz.com”, or through TuneIn: “Alexa, play RelaxingJazz.com on TuneIn”), and on Google Nest speakers (“Hey Google, play RelaxingJazz.com on TuneIn”).

Or paste one of our direct stream addresses into VLC, the Apple Music app or any internet radio player. There are 320, 128 and 32 kbps streams, all available over secure HTTPS. Everything’s on our Listen anywhere page.

Where do you broadcast from?

Live from the beautiful Caribbean island of Saint Lucia, where the station has been run single-handedly since 2006.

I’m an artist. Can you play my music?

We’d love to hear it. Email us a link where we can download your music, in 320 kbps MP3 or lossless. There’s more in our notes for artists.

Can I request a song?

Not as such. RelaxingJazz.com is a curated, automated rotation rather than a request show, so we can’t play a particular song at a particular time. Suggestions are always welcome by email, though, and the ones that fit may find their way into the playlist over time.

What do the hearts do?

Press the heart (♥) on anything that’s played here in the last three hours to say you love it, or “Not for me” if it isn’t your thing. It’s one vote per song per week, and you can change your mind. Your votes help shape the playlist over the coming weeks. They never pick the next song.

What is the RJ 20?

Our weekly listener chart: the twenty songs you loved most, built from those hearts. It’s frozen early every Monday, Saint Lucia time, with the week’s movers and new entries, and a Hall of Fame keeps the all-time favourites. You’ll find it on the Charts page.

What was that song? Can I see what you’ve played?

Yes. Every track we play goes into our log, and the Playlist page lets you search it by artist or title, or by the day and time you heard it. The log began when this version of the site went live, so earlier years aren’t in it.

Do you track me?

No. There are no adverts, no analytics and no tracking cookies. If you vote, your browser keeps a random ID so we can count one vote per song, and you can delete it whenever you like. Our privacy notice has the details, and a Forget me button.

Is there an app?

You can install this website as an app on your phone, tablet or computer: our Listen anywhere page shows you how. We’re also in the TuneIn, Apple Music and myTuner apps, which take the music to smart speakers, TVs and the car.

B2 · Get in touch

Send us an email

We love reading your emails. Pick the kind of message and your email app opens with the subject filled in.

This station is run single-handedly on a not-for-profit basis. We read every email, but we may not be able to reply to them all.

B3 · For artists

Notes for artists

We’d love to hear your music. Smooth jazz lives on because artists keep making it, and the rotation is always open to something new.

  1. Send a link, not an attachment

Email us the details of where we can download your music, with the artist name, the track or album title and the release date.

  2. 320 kbps MP3 or lossless

Please make sure your files are 320 kbps MP3 or lossless, so your music sounds its best on air.

  3. Instrumental smooth jazz is our home

That’s the heart of the rotation, so it’s what we listen for first. The playlist is handcrafted by a person, not an algorithm.

Our promise

We never accept payment for airplay.

Tracks earn their place by sounding right, nothing else. We read every submission, but can’t always reply.
