Jeff Lorber

Jeff Lorber is a keyboardist and producer whose mix of jazz, funk and R&B has been part of contemporary jazz since the late 1970s. Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock were among his first inspirations, and in 1977 he made his recording debut leading The Jeff Lorber Fusion, which grew into a popular live draw. His first album under his own name, It’s A Fact, followed in 1982, and ‘Pacific Coast Highway’, from Step By Step, brought him his first Grammy nomination.

Later albums include Kickin’ It (2001), with guests such as Dave Koz, Gerald Albright and Richard Elliot, Philly Style (2003) and Heard That (2008), which he co-produced with Rex Rideout. Flipside and He Had A Hat earned further Grammy nominations, as did Now Is The Time and Hacienda, both credited to the Jeff Lorber Fusion, and in 2018 the Fusion’s Prototype took the Grammy in the Best Contemporary Instrumental Album category. He has also produced records for other artists, among them Michael Franks and Rick Braun.
