Matt Marshak

Matt Marshak is a guitarist and singer-songwriter from eastern Long Island, New York. Rock and blues came first, through players such as Jimi Hendrix and BB King, before Larry Carlton and George Benson pulled him towards jazz. After releasing his first CD in 2001, he won an original-artist contest held by New York smooth jazz station CD101.9, which named him the city’s best new smooth jazz artist. He also opened for Spyro Gyra at a Long Island festival.

Nuance Music Group released This Time Around in 2004 and Urban Folktales in 2011, the latter a themed record shaped around a late-night city feel. Marshak was the featured guitarist on saxophonist Marcus Anderson’s “Cup of Joe”, a number one on Billboard’s smooth jazz chart, and he has toured with Four80East and played festivals in Dubai and Mallorca. His music mixes jazz with funk, blues and roots, and on Simple Man (2019) he stepped forward as a singer with an Americana and country set.
